Worst Manga/Anime

Ok, so I know everyone's read and watched some really great titles. So have I, but I've also read a couple of flunkers. Just for fun, write about a manga or anime that you personally hated, found to be overly cliche or ridiculous, or just one that was plain stupid. It can be because you hated the art, too. I kind of want to know which ones to stay away from, too.

One of the worst I've ever read was Tokyo Mew Mew. The story was very stupid, obviously not very deeply thought out. It was magical girl, and a complete copy of other similar shoujo manga. And the art... the cover looked fine but then on the inside it was annoyingly sloppy.

Another one was Orange Planet, with a cast of irritating characters you just want to clobber because of how dumb they are. Oh, and also Mistress Fortune which was a one-shot by one of my favorite artists. The art was beautiful, as always, but the story was one of the most awful I've ever read...

I tried to watch Tokyo Godfathers and couldn't get past the first ten minutes. I didn't like the way it was drawn and I didn't like the characters. I had heard great reviews and was really looking forward to it. Maybe it was just a bad day to watch it.

I just read Mistress Fortune and I agree that it was beautfiul drawn. I half agree on the story itself. I liked certain parts of it and thought it had potential but overall it was kind of ridiculous and lacked any real direction. I'm glad it was a one shot because I doubt I would have wanted to continue it other wise.

Well, I can't say I didn't enjoy it in the beginning at all, it did seem like it could've been a cute story. The rest of it, though, was what I really did not like.

Agreed, it just kept going downhill. I liked the concept of the psychic teammates fighting the ebes but the storyline and the characters were all over the place.

I don't know if I would call it the worst but I wish Highschool of the Dead had a little less T&A and a little more plotline. It's a bit much.

Probably the only guy who wishes that. :P

I'm reading the later volumes of Model by Lee So-Young and the series is sucking so hard. I thought the first volume had an interesting premise (art student makes a deal with a vampire that in exchange for him allowing her to paint his portrait, he can drink her blood) but ever since Jae left her apartment and moved into the vampire's gothic mansion, NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. It is so. friggin. boring now.

I'm fairly easy to please, but a few that didn't appeal to me...

In Glass Wings I really couldn't connect to the characters, and also, didn't really understand what exactly was going on. It was a one-shot, granted, but it felt super rushed and I really wasn't convinced. Also wasn't fond of the art...

Free Collars Kingdom is supposed to be a parody of the "boy/hero discovers he has powers unlike anyone else's and is destined to become a legendary hero of (insert country/group affiliation here)?, but it didn't convince me that it wasn't taking itself too seriously. The art was the reason I picked it up, but the story really wasn't for me. I might just be too jaded to appreciate this type of story now.

Even though Mistress Fortune's story seems to be fairly questionable, I do love Arina Tanemura's art as well, so I'll probably end up getting it regardless...if only to look at the pretty pictures.

Yup I agree. It sounded interesting at first, but then i just got boring and the story DID'NT GO ANYWHERE.

I normally like most anime, but I tried to watch the OVA of Magipokaan and while I loved the rugular version of Magipokaan, the OVA did nothing for me. It was very weak in my opinion

For manga I really did not like Chobits. I could not even finish the first volume. Doll is also strange and I would not bother reading more of the series. Another is Saint Tail, the plot type is too overdone and there was nothing original about the story.

I think the best manga is Naruto, Vampire Knight, Ouran High School Host Club

Sorry, but I have to disagree. I can't vouch for the last one, but Bleach is miles better than Naruto and everyone looks exactly the same in vampire knight. As far as I am concerned (and this is just my highly bigoted opinion) the only decent Shojo manga and anime are Magipokaan, Tokyo Mew Mew and Black Bird.

How much shojo have you actually read? There are tons and tons of titles to check out!:)
I do agree, though, about Naruto and to some extent about Vampire Knight.

Being a guy, I havent read much Shojo to be honest. But I have read a few and most have been OK-ish. Honestly, I think I'm more of a Shonen/Seinen guy.

Ah, that's funny because I'm nearly the opposite. Definitely more into shojo, but have read only a couple of shonen that I like.

The worst I have seen so far is Comic Party. To me it was anime slap shtick that tried too hard and it wasn't really all that funny. I didn't make it past 15 mins before finally saying "Ok, I'm done."

I found Model to be boring also but I do love the way the Korean manga-ka draw eyelashes so I guess its a thumbs up from me art wise.

Another shojo manga that isn't very good is W Juliet, at first it's a normal highchool manga but then the two main characters start time travelling, out of the blue and unexplained like the manga-ka had writers block and read some Fushigi Yugi while trying to get some inspiration after that the characters went back to school like nothing happened.. I found it so odd and off-putting that I still haven't finished reading.

lol, I read Fushigi Yugi 4 years ago. I remember liking it, but I though that the story dragged on too long. If I'm not mistaken, I believed that it should have ended after volume 13.

Well, there was one manga that I absolutely adored... Right up to the final chapter. Alice in the country of hearts had a great story but it was so rushed at the end. I believe the reasoning was that the artist had this story to work with (It was based on a video game in Japan) but added a lot of filler into it for whatever reason or another. She figured she was on a roll... Until she was told by the publisher that they were only making six volumes.

There were so many loose ends left unfinished, and I felt pretty cheated out on a brilliant story that was quickly closed. Alice was paired up with a character and they literally had NO DEVELOPMENT of this relationship up to that point. He was a jerk and with the story given to you, there was no reason as to why she would fall in love with him. I had to actually go online to figure out what the ending was suppossed to mean because I was so confused.

This video game had SO much potential to become a great manga, but it was ruined by lack of volumes to finish the tale correctly. Or at least get rid of that filler.

I have found that everything I've read by Oh!Great (which is basically only Tenjho Tenge and Air Gear) starts out really cool, but then after a few volumes it veers off into crazy angst town, and suddenly the characters gain super-human abilites, choose sides in an ultimate-but-vaguely-explained battle, and start fighting to the death. Only saving grace is that the art is gorgeous throughout.

Also, (and this may get me crucified) I really don't like much of anything that CLAMP puts out. Something about the ultra-shojo stories they write just makes me cringe. I guess I'm just a little too much of a tomboy to enjoy the damsel in distress meets chivalrous male lead scenario. Again, usually very nice art, though.

Well one of the worst anime’s I’ve seen was devils line. Only because the characters we’re stiff in action and didn’t have much facial expressions. Also the ending was confusing and didn’t satisfy anyone. But idk maybe you guys liked it 🤷‍♀️

I didn't know Mysterious Girlfriend X is a fetish fantasy and tried to give the anime two episodes to make sense.

At least that show has an excuse to being far from my tastes. I still can't figure out who might enjoy My Girlfriend is a Mermaid?!
