They've been in town about a year, but I just discovered them: Kaboom Books, formerly of New Orleans, relocated to Houston -- at 833 Studewood @ 9th Street, in the Heigts. A VERY good selection -- and they say there are still hundreds of boxes to transport from their old home! Call them at 713-869-7600; 10 - 6 Tues - Sat, 1 - 5 Sun; closed Mondays.

Oh, excellent! I was driving down Studewood last week and noticed 'em, but had OctogenarianBestineMom in the car with me and couldn't stop. Something to look forward to!

Are they a used book store or . . .? They're kinda close to my office, so I might have to check them out.

Used, but a good selection -- way beyond Half Price in the depth and character of their selection. Nice people, too -- worth chatting with.

Made it by there today. Scored a nice hc/dj/1/1 copy of Sharon Kay Penman's "Sunne in Splendour" (super historical, Richard III) for $10.

Prices reasonable! All sorts of great stuff -- fiction, scifi, mysteries, history, journalism, humor, poetry, arts, kids stuff. Some Texana, too. Good talk at the till and great help finding stuff, too.

As I again had OctogenarianBestineMom with me in the car, and she has a tendency to get cranky in bookstores, I was deeelighted to discover that Kaboom shares space with a fun boutique (named "Ooo-La-La") just crammed with yummy handcrafted girlie-girl accessories (handcrafted jewelry, clothes, pottery and more). No gripes at all, this time. ;-)

Hey, thanks for the info. I live in the Heights and drive by everyday, but have never had the time to pop in. Now I'll *make* the time!

Hey is this bookstore still there and still pretty good? I'm looking for some new sources to get old books I can't find elsewhere now.
Thanks. Cheri

Waaaah! The last time I was driving down Studewood, I noticed the banner was gone and the windows were covered with brown paper. I didn't have time to stop in and see for myself (I was bringing a very unhappy cat back home from having her teeth cleaned), but looks like they've closed.

Oh, how sad. I wish I'd gotten there.

They moved -- but still exist. I don't remember the new address, but ask the woman who works in the shop next to where the old store was on Studewood. Or, they might Google at the new address by now... it's a short distance, over toward North main.

Kaboom still exists....it is on Studewood a few blocks north of 11th. I'll have to look at the exact block but I pass it all the time and was in there about a month ago. If you are driving from I-10 towards 610, it will be on your left side and it is in a gas station shopping strip. It is not open every day. I can't remember the exact days but I think they are open on Thurs and Friday.
I believe there is another Kaboom a short distance away. It is closer to I-45 but still just a few blocks away from the Studewood location.

Yeah, it's on Houston Ave., right where Bayland Ave. meets it. Randomly discovered it the other day. Found they have a web site, which shows maps of both locations, plus hours: http://www.kaboombooks.com/contact.html If you go the Houston Ave. location, schedule in some extra time for the very talkative shop owner, haha.

There are two locations. :) One is Houston Ave at Bayland and the other is Studewood, south of 11th (I made a mistake earlier). The latter location is only open on select days. Not sure about the Houston Ave one...? I'll go look at the website. Thanks!
