Since the mention of HBO and Sookie, I wondered if anyone has watched or has plans to watch Lifetime's Blood Ties, a TV series based on Tanya Huff's "Blood" series.

If you've seen it, what do you think of it?
If you've read the books, does the series stay true to the characters?

I have seen the first 3 episodes, and read the first book. Apart from updating the technology and maybe changing the vamp guy a little, seems pretty faithful.

It was ok, certainly stayed away from cheesy romance (same as the book).

I loved Huff's books, so I tried out the TV series. It's not too bad. I liked the update in technology-- that made sense. They did change the vampire in a few telling ways. In the books, he wrote romance novels; in the series, he draws/writes graphic novels. He was short in the books, too, but I guess that doesn't play well on TV.

Vicki is very well-cast, in my opinion and the guy chosen for Celluci reminds me of Kurt Russell. The series added a goth-y female assisstant for Vicki and took away her slang-speaking male street snitch, Tony, from the books. I'm hoping they add him in later. In all, though, I agree that the characters remain pretty faithful to the original.

With the current public interest in police work and forensic science detail, I was a little disappointed in the way the series didn't do its research. They cut corners for expediency. They use the Medical Examiner like a one-woman crime lab and batch of experts, which I find annoying, but her character is very amusing and fun.

I know this is an old thread but I just recently started watching Blood Ties on On Demand. I've really enjoyed the episodes so far, I think I've watched about 10 or 11 of them. After watching the show I even read the first couple books of the series which were good as well. I'm looking forward to watching more of the eps, I hope they don't cancel it!!
