Well, I already know that the possibility of me reading 75 books this year, is equal to zero. BUT...I have read more books this year than any year before. I have gained many new friends, AND a tbr pile higher than Mount Everest and K2 put together! I bet it will keep growing next year, faster than I will read, of course, but then maybe it is good that my memory is a little slow:) I might end up with a Black hole like Stasia.

Here is:

#27: Some of the locals told us that there's almost no snow in Reykjavik anymore. It was actually warmer there than at home, which is further south...but I guess we were just lucky with the weather:) Haha, I didn't see it before, but I get your point about the church!;)

Today I just got home from a couple of days in hospital. I had a surgery in my nose...for breathing purposes only, not a "nose-job";) Now I'm on sick leave for a week, with a bloody nose and lots of pain killers. I finished a book while in hospital (yay, finally) and hopefully I'll get to read a few more books the next couple of days. Since I'm not allowed to do anything that can raise my blood pressure, because of increased bleeding, I'm stuck with sucking ice cubes and reading.

Dez 3, 2010, 12:34 pm

Thanks :) It is lovely to relax a few days, and not thinking of work:)

I was thinking of reading something with christmas in it, just have to finish the book I've started first.

Stasia, I think there should be an official leave from work for us readers...."On reading leave, do not disturb!" Since we have cravings for reading, we could have that added to the sick leave (in case we get sick), of course!

Those pictures are awesome, Bente. I love the geysers, the horse, the church...well, you get the (ahem) picture, I'm sure.

I hope your nose recovers quickly. Breathing better will be worth the pain and swelling. I hope you get lots of good reading done while you're recovering.

I had a carcinoma a few years ago that ate almost all the way through my nose before I was able to get surgery. I now have lots of scar tissue and my husband tells me I snore!

#35 Thanks, Donna! I used to work in a hospital just after I finished uni (in the skin department/dermatology) so I heard a lot of things about carcinoma. Sorry to hear it left you with scar tissue! Breathing better is definitely worth pain and swelling:) Getting better almost always does!

#36: Good!!!!:) Maybe someone should launch the idea to our respective governments!

#37: Thanks Monica! There sure is! It's snowing outside too, so I've tucked myself in under a blanket, reading...and occasionally sleeping a little ;)

#46 & 47: I really, really liked it! David Yates disappointed me with the Order of the Phoenix, but he has made up for it with the Half-blood Prince and this one. Can't wait for the next to come, though it will be a little bitter sweet I guess. Then it's definitely over. Nothing new from the HP world:)

It has been great to follow the story from beginning to end. I'll never forget when I received my copy of Deathly Hallows. I don't think I've ever been as excited about a book in my life.

Oh...and I did feel like reading Deathly Hallows again (right now), but I recently finished the Philosopher's stone, so I think 2011 is the year of rereading the whole series. Hopefully before Part 2 is due in the movies:)

#48: My oldest daughter loves the HP series. The night that DH came out, we were at the store at midnight to pick it up.

50Apolline
Editado: Dez 18, 2010, 1:40 pm

#49: We have something in common then:) It sounds really fun to be able to pick it up at midnight. I would definitely have stayed up all night reading! Unfortunately I was home for my summer holidays from uni, and since it is a small town (and it was not the Norwegian edition being published), none of the bookshops were open.

Well, I gave myself a "book buying ban" a few weeks ago, but was not able to...ehm..prevent myself from buying books (I know, I know...just couldn't help myself). My new goal is therefore to stay under 100 books bought this year;) Or to avoid bookstores and amazon.

So, here's my last bash of the year (hopefully):

Sarah Dessen - The Truth about Forever
Georgette Heyer - Arabella
Frances Hodgson Burnett - A Little Princess
Lauren Willig - The Mischief of the Mistletoe
Rosie Alison - The Very Thought of You

Maybe, instead of browsing for new and interesting books, I should find the time to actually read them :D

51RosyLibrarian
Dez 18, 2010, 2:24 pm

50: Ooo, nice haul! I've always wanted to read something by Georgette Heyer. And also I've never read A Little Princess though I love The Secret Garden.

It's too much fun browsing books and thinking of everything you want to read...sometimes even better than what we actually end up reading. :)

52Apolline
Dez 18, 2010, 8:12 pm

#51: A book can sound very interesting and then turn out to be total crap, but the browsing is still fun! :)

So..I just attended a Christmas concert (started at 11 pm n the town church), so now I am full of Christmas spirit! Well, maybe until tomorrow morning. Well, I have decided to treat you with a Christmas song.

This is a Norwegian song (it has English subtitles). Hope you like it!

I forgot to add a book I bought in Oslo last weekend to the haul: The Children's Book by A. S. Byatt I had not heard anything about this book, or the author before, just bought it on a whim:)

I need lots and lots of coffee:)

Here is a song (not that they will hear it, but nevertheless) to all those people stuck in airports across Europe, because of the bad weather. Hope they will get home in time!

Well, it seems like they have removed the original music video from youtube, but I will post the instrumental version and a movie trailer where the song is played in the background, just don't mind the Norwegian (when I have decided on a song, I can't change my mind ;)). I think it is sad that I can not share this particular song with you, since it is probably my favorite this year!

Books of shame 2010...

I live by the rule that "there is a book for every reader and a reader for every book".

Well, sometimes I have to admit there might be exceptions from every rule...

I really want to believe in this specific rule, therefore I will continue to stick with it in the future, be nice and diplomatic and claim that "these books were just not for me!" Though, silently in my own mind, I will actually be wondering "How on earth did this author get a book contract. Is there nothing called quality control in the world of books and literature? This is horse shite!!!!"

But of course I am too polite to ever mention this to anyone.

So, here is the books from 2010 that were "just not for me", presented in no specific order:

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
The Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George
Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger
Evermore by Alyson Nöel

Using only song names from ONE ARTIST, cleverly answer these questions. Pass it on to 15 people you like and include me. You can't use the band I used. Try not to repeat a song title. It's a lot harder than you think! Repost as "My life according to (band name)."

Pick your artist: Death Cab for Cutie
Are you a male or female: Different names for the same thing
Describe yourself: Summer skin
How do you feel? Talking bird
Describe where you currently live: Bixby Canyon Bridge
If you could go anywhere, where would you go? Meet me on the Equinox
Your favorite form of transportation: Passenger seat
Your best friend is: Your new twin sized bed
You and your best friends are: Brothers on a hotel bed
What's the weather like? The ice is getting thinner
Favorite time of day: What Sarah said
If your life was a TV show, what would it be called? I will possess your heart
What is life to you? Lightness
Your fear: Your heart is an empty room
What is the best advice you have to give? Someday you will beloved
Thought for the day: Start again
How I would like to die: A movie script ending
My soul's present condition: Soul meets body
My motto: I will follow you into the dark

My life according to Death Cab for Cutie

Using only song names from ONE ARTIST, cleverly answer these questions. Pass it on to 15 people you like and include me. You can't use the band I used. Try not to repeat a song title. It's a lot harder than you think! Repost as "My life according to (band name)."

Pick your artist: Death Cab for Cutie
Are you a male or female: Different names for the same thing
Describe yourself: Summer skin
How do you feel? Talking bird
Describe where you currently live: Bixby Canyon Bridge
If you could go anywhere, where would you go? Meet me on the Equinox
Your favorite form of transportation: Passenger seat
Your best friend is: Your new twin sized bed
You and your best friends are: Brothers on a hotel bed
What's the weather like? The ice is getting thinner
Favorite time of day: What Sarah said
If your life was a TV show, what would it be called? I will possess your heart
What is life to you? Lightness
Your fear: Your heart is an empty room
What is the best advice you have to give? Someday you will beloved
Thought for the day: Start again
How I would like to die: A movie script ending
My soul's present condition: Soul meets body
My motto: I will follow you into the dark

I love this band...do check their songs!

Dear friends!

Here I am, at the last day of 2010...or actually it is 2011 over her, so I'm speaking to you from the future;)

I just realized I've been a bad 75'er the last week. The past few days flew by in an immensely speed, and I wonder, where did they all go. Where did the Christmas go, did it not start yesterday?

As, probably most of you, I have been busy with friends, family, work, eating, eating even more, and did I mention eating?

Well, my point is that every time I have been away from my computer , my head is filled with words and thoughts about how I wanted to sum up my year. But every time I sat down to write on my thread, my head went completely blank.

How do you sum up a year like 2010?

My first year as a 75'er, my first ever reading challenge, a year when I reached the massive number of 44 books read, and got many new friends?

It was a year where I learned a lot about myself and others, a year that brought me a step closer to something I have dreamed of for a while, but also a year that took me further away from other dreams. I start 2011 with a blank piece of paper and a pen, to write my life as it happens. No expectations, just going along for the ride, to see where life brings me. Hopefully I will have as many joyful moments ad the ending year brought me, and hopefully I will be able to keep in touch with all of you.

have a wonderful new years eve...all around the world! My promise is that I will stick around with the 75'ers in 2011, and maybe I will reach 45 books read this year. Can't wait to find out...and enjoy the process:)

Godt nytt år!!!
This is Bente...signing out from 2010...expecting to rejoin this fabulous crowd in 2011.

HUGS!

A belated 'Godt nytt ar' to you too, Bente. (Sorry, can't do the a with a circle on top very quickly from this keyboard!). I realised I had got behind on the end of your 2010 thread, and I'm glad I came back to catch up as I've now seen all those wonderful photos of your Iceland trip, as well as of your Norwegian Christmas.

YOu've inspired me to investigate a holiday in Iceland, which I first wanted to do when I was about 16, and still have not managed several decades later... Having finally visited NOrway for the first time in 2010, perhaps Iceland can be next?

Anyway, I'll try to keep up better on your 2011 thread, and look forward to hearing about your reading and listening to your music choices.
