Future Sci-Fi Robot Book

I read a book years ago that was set in a future where everything is run by robots and machines. There's a robot in charge of a city or the world who hates his existence and wants to die. He can't, however, commit suicide, even though he tries to jump off the roof of the tallest building every day or year or something like that.

He thinks he'll be able to do it when the last human is dead so he's been fixing birth rate reports so that birth control is put in all the food and the humans are dying out. There's a girl who lives outside the system and a man... I think she's pregnant and the robot takes her in? Eventually they push the robot off the building. I think.

Found via Abebooks.com - booksleuth. The book is probably Mockingbird by Walter Tevis, although there's no mention of the robot trying to commit suicide, they do mention population control and that the robot thought he was in love with woman.
This book may be out of print.

Some similar ideas are in Monica Hughes' The Tomorrow City.

I am trying/wishing to remember this book too. I don’t remember the pregnancy but I remember him trying to jump off the tower but can’t. Also in the middle they end up at factory where the only thing they do is make toasters but there’s a flaw in the assembly line. Everh time it reaches the end the toaster is rejected and deconstructed and the cycle continues. Humans no longer know about toasters and cook bread over open flame. Thry fix the flaw and the character wonders what people will do when toasters start showing up again. I really want to read book again if anyone can figure it out. It’s very dystopian

>2 wid_get: Your link goes to "Mockingbird" by Kathryn Erskine, not the Walter Tevis one.
