Sobre Minha Biblioteca
I am the librarian at Baker Demonstration School in Wilmette, IL. I work with amazing Pre-K through 8th grade students. My library is fantastic, well-funded and has over 20,000 volumes in it. It is a friendly and fun place to be. I love it when kids are in the library working, reading, sitting in the comfy chairs, or writing poetry on the poetry board.

I also work at Glenview Public Library as a reader's advisory librarian.

I am a big advocate for encouraging people to read for pleasure, and think that the more we ask children to test about the books they are reading, or do mindless question answering about the details in their books, the more we turn them off to reading. I believe we should simply expect that our children and students read -- and read a lot. My favorite part of my job is developing programming to encourage reading for pleasure, and talking to students about the books they like to read. My day is made when either a student or a teacher says, "Can you recommend a good book?"
About Me
The first thing I need to say about myself is that when I read a book, I am usually in love with it. Rarely will I read a book and not love it. That's because I abandon books I don't enjoy. Life is too short to read something I hate. As a result, most of the books I list here and give stars to will have 4 or 5 stars. I can't help myself because I always finish a book feeling deeply touched and forever changed having read it.

I've been a librarian since 1993, after graduating from Rutgers University with an MLS. I love being a librarian and reading. I look forward to going to work everyday, and love helping students and patrons. I also earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching, so am now teacher certified in the state of Illinois.

I have served on many book award committees, among them the the Abraham Lincoln Book Award and ALA Best of the Best reading committee.

Here's my 15 seconds of fame --

I had the honor of being awarded North Suburban Library System's School Librarian of the Year in 2005.

In the book, Be Happy At Work: 100 Women Who Love Their Jobs and Why, by Joanne Gordon, I was one of the 100 women profiled.
