The underlying theme in Holden's personal library was the nature and role of power in politics. The strengths of the collection are in African-American politics, regulatory policy, sociology of race, presidential politics, African history and British history. Additionally, the reading room offers a multimedia monitor for video and computer presentations. The reading room can be reserved for seminars, colloquia and the presentation of working papers. Faculty and graduate students are welcome to read in the Center. To reserve the room, please e-mail the Center at the address on this page. The Holden Reading Room is located on the fourth floor of the H.T. Sampson Library on the main campus of Jackson State University.
About Me
The Holden Reading Room contains more than 4,000 volumes donated by Dr. Matthew Holden, Jr., the Henry L. and Grace Doherty Professor Emeritus of the University of Virginia and Mrs. Dorothy Holden. Professor Holden, a native of Mississippi, has served as president of the American Political Science Association, has authored or co-authored more than 30 books and articles and has served as the commissioner of the Federal Regulatory Commission. The Holden Reading Room is part of the Jackson State University Center for University Scholars.
