This book is an overview of the life of Ralph Baer, inventor of the home video game. Ralph was originally born in Germany but had to move to America with his family when he was young due to the Nazi Party taking control of Germany. Although he started out doing odd jobs, through education, hard work, and determination he was able to move up in the world and find a career path he loved.
This book is the perfect way to inspire anyone interested in pursuing computer engineering or even just a casual interest in technology in general. The author choose to tell parts of Baer's story in the form of a narrative. This combined with the somewhat large print makes it very entertaining though possibly a little advanced for younger readers. I would highly recommend an adult read this book with children as there are some terms and concepts that might require further explanation or discussion.… (mais)

There are multiple reasons I like this book. The first reason I like this book is because of all the real life illustrations. Included on every page there was either a real life photograph from Madam C.J. Walker life time, a map displaying her journey, or a drawing to represent a specific event. This helps readers relate to the time period and what events had occurred. Another reason this is a great book is due to its writing and organization of information. The information is organized in chronological order starting with Madam C.J Walker's childhood all the way to her death in 1919. In efforts to aid the reader, the author also chunks the information by using subtitles and headings. The big idea of this story is to not only inform readers about Madam C.J Walker, but also inspire young minds to follow in her footsteps and follow their dreams.… (mais)

This short but quite detailed and interesting biography is about someone who would change entertainment forever and never be the same again. The title is the first thing you notice it is “The guy who invented home video games” which to any student who likes any game would immediately be drawn to. This is a very relatable topic and even if it’s not through enjoying them it is something that crossed over all barriers of people and everyone has an opinion on it. The text describes the man’s journey even describing a difficult time in history to that of Hitler’s reign. There are quite a few extra textual features in the book and are a big help in breaking down more information. They have pictures next to information that may need more explaining and that help make the point clearer. They have a list of everything that he had invented and a time line in the back to help keep track of all the dates that are used. The extra textual features even go into more detail about things related to the text, so students are interested they can learn even more.… (mais)

Sign Language Man follows the story of Thomas H. Gallaudet, a man who is known as a key factor in the development of sign language and deaf education. The main idea of this book is not only how instrumental Gallaudet was in the promotion of educating the deaf but how deaf education has progressed over the years and how important sign language is to the deaf. The author gets this message across by using chapters to describe key details of Gallaudet’s life. By doing this the reader is easily able to distinguish key events. There is also a timeline of events at the end of the book to remind the reader of the timeline the events occurred. The author also uses pictures and charts to enhance the meaning of how sign language looks and is composed. This is helpful to the reader because it is a visual language. I enjoyed reading this book and learning from it because of how visual it was. The pictures give the reader a glimpse of how sign language looks, the chart allows readers to compare the structure of American Sign Language to English, and the timeline allows you to put all the event together. I also liked how the book included personal details of his life like his education, thoughts, and why he became an advocate for the deaf.… (mais)
