Flesh-eating beetles terrorize the world in this 1980 novel by Alan Radnor (aka Lewis Wilson, aka Richard Lewis). Entitled The Devil's Coach Horse in the author's native England, The Black Horde is poorly written, introducing characters only to kill them off in suspenseless fashion; there's no one to care about or root for. Two years earlier, Radnor had authored another novel of bug horror--the considerably popular Spiders--and seems to have taken it for granted that he was now free to insult the reader's intelligence.

There are excellent examples of bug-themed horror (stories such as John B.L. Goodwin's "The Cocoon" and Thomas M. Disch's "The Roaches"), and then there's lazy dreck like this. Avoid.
