Wassilij Wassiliewitsch Wereschtschagin

A rather unusual exhibition catalog. The author and artist, Vasily Vereshchagin was one of the most famous Russian war painters. His exhibition in Vienna included his series of paintings on Napoleon I in Russia. For each painting there is descriptive text - the last painting is titled Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!. The catalog continues with chapters on:
1. Wologda (area from which the artist comes)
2. Various studies (Verschiedene Studien);
3. In the South of Russia (Im Süden vom Russland);
4. Remembrances of America (Erinnerungen an Amerika).
5. Sketches (Skizzen) This starts off with one of Napoleon' bed!;
6. Photographs of older paintings from the artist (Photographien älterer Gemälde des Malers).
The exhibition ended with show cases with various articles (Schrank 1, Schrank 2).

The catalog includes very interesting text, principally with the description of Napoleon's Russian campaign from the viewpoint of a famous Russian artist. Unfortunately there are no pictures in the catalog.… (mais)
