Pequena biografia
From her website: I am the proud product of a small town called Robinson in central North Dakota. I attended Jamestown College (now Jamestown University), a Wells family tradition, and majored in Theatre. I met and married an Easterner, and we moved to his home state of Connecticut for a few years. Had a couple kids, moved back to ND, moved on to Tucson, and here I am, a bona fide desert rat. Somewhere in the midst of raising kids and working, I wrote what would be my first published novel, The Earth Is All that Lasts. It came out about the time I finished up a master’s in library science and began a professional career. Several more books and short stories followed, including Mother Grimm, which was nominated for the 1997 Phillip K. Dick Award. I was delighted a couple of years ago when ARC Manor publishing asked if they could bring out my backlist as ebooks. Now you can get several of my books from Phoenix Pick.  “Macbeatha” (previously titled “Stones of Destiny”) and “Beyond the Gates” are available from Desert Moon Press. I recently left my day job as a medical librarian. I enjoy hiking with my hubby and riding our tandem bicycle. I haven’t entirely given up theatre; I’ve written a number of plays including a of couple musicals and placed in the finals of a competition or two, but I refuse to produce my own stuff, so it doesn’t get done much. As for those two lovely girls I raised, one owns Lonesome Valley Brewing in Prescott Valley, AZ, and the other is April L’Orange, an up and coming author.

The writing is very stilted in this tale of stymied love in a future earth. The only reason I persisted in finishing the book is because it was so close--but so far-- from a different book I had read about 20 years ago & wish I could find again. Similarities: The majority of humans have abandoned Earth, one returns and finds a thriving Native-American-style civilization. Differences: in this version, the returnees are a whole crew, led by a manipulator who intends to control whatever he can find of value. And there is a unicorn thrown in for good measure. In the lost version, the returnee is a single woman, come to check on the health & well-being of the planet. She meets a coyote-style medicine man. If you know that one, send me a message.… (mais)

Seems like a life and death theme through most of the stories here. Elsa's Sphere's by Marina J. Lostetter was enjoyable. A grieving widow trying to move on after his wife passes. But the best story here had to be Seven Tips to Enjoy Your Time in the Unreal Forest by Van Aaron Hughes. A kid struggling to fit in amongst bullies, girls, and an abusive father discovers a secret. In the end he discovers loss and wishes to share a message with everyone. A sad story with an important message.

An astronaut comes back to a family that is much older than she is. Very moving look at the personal consequences of space travel.
