I think that this is a good book. First, it is an informational picture book so the illustrations are very realistic. Some are actual photos of bears. I think the level of realism helps support information conveyed in the text and draws the readers attention. Some of the pages have a lot of text but the engaging pictures make readers want to find out more. Another thing thats great about this book is the glossary. It uses higher level scientific words to describe actions of bears like hibernation. While the word is described in the text, having a solid definition of the words will help some students get a better understanding of the book and what bears do. Another thing I liked about this book was all the graphs and tables it had. The author compared heights, weights colors of fur (deep brown, light brown, dark black, speckled) to determine characteristic of the class brown or black bear. It was an engaging and instructional book that I think a lot of students would enjoy. The overall message is just that there are different animals.… (mais)
