Parts were interesting, but other parts were rather slow and dull, particularly the part on the Rhineland occupation. The interesting parts were Allen's exploration of Alaska and his time in the Philippines.
Not much humour in the book, but there was one hillarious incident that took place at the end of the expedition to punish Pancho Villa. The incident involved Allen's son in law, Lt. Viner and his horse. Viner's horse mounts a general's horse (with the general still in the saddle) during a formal review.
I would recommend this book to military historians, particularly those interested in our colonization of the Philippines or World War One.… (mais)
