My original Red Mist audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

The Red Mist by Richard K. Taylor is one of those rare books that grabs you and doesn’t let go until days after you finished the book. He has fictionalized the incidents surrounding the lives and murders of Marilyn Monroe and President John F. Kennedy.

David Dengler, training to be a U.S. Army Military Intelligence Officer, is assigned a graduation training assignment – where you travel to a new place and set up a surveillance of Marilyn Monroe and bring back something no one knows. Easy peasy!

Well, that is until he witnesses the historic moment when Marilyn Monroe dies. The mystery surrounding her death and other incidents leading up to and including the assassination of President Kennedy will set your head to spinning. If you were not a conspiracy theorist before you read this book, you will be afterwards!

All I can say is, WOW!!! Actually, that was the first word out of my mouth when I finished the audiobook. Taylor has taken several historic moments and woven a fictional story around and through the incidents in a masterful and creative manner. His writing flows smoothly, the dialog is amazing and the character development is complete. Taylor draws the listener in making them care about the characters – one cannot help but become passionate about certain characters; you want to see them get what they deserve … including bullets in some cases!

I grew up during this time period that Taylor writes about so I remember most of the incidents; I remember the news blaring and the conversations that followed years after. He takes everything from this period, all the emotions, fears, doubts, and dishonesty and weaves them into his book skillfully and completely. It seems so real – all of it!

Taylor has romance, action, adventure, shoot-outs, conspiracies galore and so much more. The listener cannot help but be engaged in the book – Taylor does not give you the option of being disinterested or passive throughout any part of this book. You will be engaged!

Narrated by Paul Heitsch, he performs this book expertly. His performance adds to the illusion that this is real; he owns the book in other words. He speaks clearly and with passion. A perfect narrator for this writing!

I should add, that I had difficulty putting this book down and was disappointed it was over.

There were no issues with the audio quality or production of this book.

My original Stones Skipping on Water audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

Stones Skipping on Water is not a normal book. Richard Taylor builds a novel around one thing – Clear Thought. A drug that enhances many things – the multiple uses of this drug is staggering, that is until the scientist, Gordon, the mysterious beautiful Vanessa and the rich venture capitalist, John partake of this experimental drug. Then the listener is treated to a novel that makes your head swirl.

Taylor creates a story that both fascinates and entertains but has that feeling of being on a loop that never stops. Karma, destiny or fate – whatever you want to call it drives the loop, as a person there is nothing to stop the loop regardless – Taylor makes you think about the soul, God, reincarnation, destiny, interconnectedness of people and more. The listener will learn and wonder alongside John and Vanessa.

I enjoyed how Taylor created the story, how he developed not only the main characters but their past as well. His ability to show the interconnectedness of lives and how randomness is an illusion.

The book is highly erotic thus putting to rest a doubt I had – the doubt that men can write poetically and flowing through the act with over the top descriptions that are not crude. While well done, I tired of it.

I loved the analogy of skipping stones with the story – well done! This is an action packed thrilling story with romance, sex, a love triangle for all time and revenge. Not one to miss for sure!

The narrator, Paul Heitsch is wonderful. He speaks clearly and concisely projecting the right amount of fear, dread, awe and other emotions. I thought his voice was perfect; he owned the book!

There were no issues with the quality of production of this audio book. It was well done!

David Dengler was expecting to be assigned to a low level politician, instead he is assigned to surveil Marilyn Monroe, one of the most beautiful and famous movie stars in Hollywood. His dream assignment turns into a nightmare, and he finds himself on the run and in hiding.

This book takes you from the glitter of Hollywood to the mines of West Virginia, we find out about Dengler’s dreams and loves growing up, how he overcame all this to achieve his goal. All of this turns out to be important later in the book.

Although I did not like this book I gave it 4 stars. There was good character development, I really started to feel like I knew the main character, I could feel what he was feeling. The word descriptions were vivid and the plot was solid with enough twists to keep me reading till the end. The plot twists were not wild or unbelievable. I finished this book, but I didn’t have to force myself, it was an enjoyable read, it just turned out to be a subject that didn’t interest me.

I would recommend this book to fans of political thrillers who like a personal touch to their books.

If I could give 3.5 I would. I really liked this book, up until a point. Those of you who have read it know what I mean. I did enjoy reading about all the local places in Cambria mentioned in the story. Anyone who has visited Cambria would get a kick out of all the local references.
