An excellent description of the life of a gentleman's child from nanny to prep, to public, to uni.
The rich really are different from you and I.

More or less an updating of a book Sutherland co-wrote in the early 1960s, in the wake of "Kim" Philby's defection to the USSR; the update being triggered by the revelation of Sir Anthony Blunt as the "Fourth Man" in the group of Cambridge University-educated spies recruited by the KGB's predecessors. I didn't find the book to be terribly focused; a lot of it is a simple recapitulation of the case. Sutherland doesn't appear to think much of Blunt's contributions to espionage; nor Burgess' for the matter. Good for outlining the case, but not much more, I think.… (mais)

This slender volume is the companion to THE ENGLISH GENTLEMAN. Larded with amusing cartoons, one learns about what makes up the English gentleman's wife from money, men, marriage and motherhood. A must read for any Nancy Mitford fan
