Good reads.
Felt that this book was interesting and easy to follow. A romance between friends.

This was actually pretty painful to get through. But I did get through it. OK so here’s the deal. Teddy owns a construction company with her brothers in the small town where they all grew up. Unlike most young girls, Teddy ended up having a pretty serious crush on her best friend‘s older brother, Cal. But something happened when they were younger to cure her of her crush on him and she basically hates him now. She was the ugly duckling growing up and she suffered teasing from him her whole life. But she has grown into a beautiful woman and when she is hired to do the renovations on his house, he figures he can get to know her better and they could get to be friends again. And maybe have a fling because that’s all he’s interested in from a woman. Teddy wants more from someone she’s in a relationship with and pushes back at his advances. Constantly. He just doesn’t let up and doesn’t take no for an answer.

I see the other reviews and I see that people really enjoyed this pair. I did not. I thought it was kind of sick and twisted that all Cal was interested in was a fling and he didn’t really seem to care about the childhood trauma that he inflicted on her. He just want her to forget all that and go to bed with him with no promises for the future. And she disappointed me in that she couldn’t seem to stay away from him despite knowing he wasn’t wanting anything long-term.

But, this is a romance, and things ended up working for them. And I guess that’s all anyone could hope for with a book like this.

Much better than the first book. But still problematic. But this one was easier to get through with a minimal amount of frustrated hair pulling.

In this book, Antonio develops a bit of a crush on his daughter's pediatric nurse Augusta, Gus. Gus also has the hots for him and gives in to having a "fling" with him. Gus has self esteem issues and doesn't think she deserves more, although she wants more. But fortunately, Antonio is much quicker on the uptake than Cal from book 1 was and he realizes he has real feelings for Gus that go beyond just a fling. The problem comes with convincing Gus of that.

So much of this book is spent on everyone telling Gus how much Antonio likes her and wants to be with her, even Antonio. But she can't believe it when anyone says anything nice about her. And it gets old really quickly. Nevertheless, Antonio finally makes the right grand gesture (because he did many) to make her finally believe and they get their HEA. This one was definitely more fun than the last book and even made me smile at some parts.

So this wasn’t quite the amnesia story I was looking for. There was amnesia involved, but it ended up being more a second chance romance story. Which I don’t tend to enjoy. I will say that I liked the fact that Casey was steadfast and constant in his love for Megan. But I did not like the new version of Megan. Casey had to constantly assure her that he would love whatever version of her and that she wasn’t as different as she thought she was. But there’s always a steady cycle of her doubting herself, then doubting him, then getting mad at him because she was constantly surprising him, then doubting he could love her, then they have sex. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. I honestly didn’t care what happened to New Megan by the end of the story. Casey may have loved her, but I didn’t. And while my curiosity is piqued for the next book, I don’t think I can tolerate another book in this series. Because I haven’t really liked any of them.… (mais)
