Philippa Strum is senior scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Washington, DC, and professor emerita, City University of New York. Her many books Include Louis D. Brandeis: Justice for the People, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in biography.

Wonderful recounting of the Supreme Court dedcision that opened VMI to women. Focuses on the key players (Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Josiah Bunting) and others who fought to accomplish what each believed was right. Also looks at legal history of women's issues - good description of Frontiero Case for example and other pertinent cases. Looks at Sandra Day O'Conner's term on court, the friendship between her and Ginsburg, and the way they have been treated on the Court. Also looks at decisions of William Rhenquist. Looks at VMI as an institution, its history, the reactions of faculty and students to integration order. Looks briefly at what happened when the school was forced to take black cadets for the first time inthe 1960s.… (mais)
