About the Author

Melvin Leon Stottlemyre was born in Hazleton, Missouri on November 13, 1941. He was signed by the New York Yankee organization in 1961. He spent 11 seasons with the Yankees. He was a five-time All-Star and a three-time 20-game winner. He retired in 1975 with a record of 164-139 and an earned run mostrar mais average of 2.97 before turning to a second career as a pitching coach. He coached the New York Mets' pitchers for 10 seasons, including their 1986 World Series championship year, and the Yankees' pitchers for another 10 years, during which the team won four World Series championship. His memoir, Pride and Pinstripes written with John Harper, was published in 2007. He died from complications of multiple myeloma on January 15, 2019 at the age of 77.
