Stevenson writes as a pastor in small village in the Scottish Highlands. His reflections on the changing society, and seeing God at work in people around the village is a great read. It is especially current for even our day and age.

He notes that for a long time the church was "more interested in being saved than saving", and remarks that the church has let down the society around it by not listening too and answering the questions that they were asking.

I read this while reading a book by Tim Keller also, and although the prose is a differeint style, the message is the same. Either this gospel we share is for everyman or it is not. And as it is, we must work at getting into peoples hearts, even we don't really believe at times that it will work. A changing world presents a seemingly huge obstacle to the gospel. But Christ and the cross reaches across time and through cultures, changing all the hearts it comes into contact with.… (mais)
