Resenhas

This story has the origins of Aladdin, and Sinbad, and so many more. It has influenced the world of story telling in so many ways, and brought to life so much of the culture, and mythology of the east into the west. The whole concept of genies and djinn was popularized through this work. Check it out if you ever get the chance. This particular translation did a good job of blending the feel of ancient times with more modern understandable prose.

A quote from Mark Helprin's introduction: "Running unavoidably throughout A Thousand Nights and A Night are the themes of captivity, escape, the restoration of a shattered past, and voyages in strange and frightening lands."

A review of the original kindergarten philosophy, techniques and methods. As a teacher, I found it very interesting but I would have liked it better if I could have skimmed around a paper copy instead of slogging through the e-book. Ms. Wiggin's first stories were written as fundraisers for her kindergarten schools. I think her teaching experience is the reason she was able to write about such wonderful characters as Pollyanna and Rebecca. This book is co-authored with her sister Ms. Smith.

"This edition, the work of Kate Douglas Wiggin, is based on two previous English translations of two different Arabic texts. Both translators revised, rearranged, and abridged their versions, and one was just beginning his study of Arabic." -- page viii
