A publisher’s blurb proclaims that Robin Sloan’s The Suitcase Clone “bridges the world of Sourdough to that of Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore.” They had me at Sourdough. Throw in some old-school French wine with “noble rot,” and I am well and truly hooked. Foodie sci-fi—what is not to like?

Short, very short. Good though! A bright spot in the midst of a stressful time for me. I just wish it had been longer. Makes me want to reread Mr Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore.

It's not true to say I finished this book. I read half. It was an amusing, witty account of how a techie nerd becomes seduced by the simple happiness of baking sourdough bread. Does she reject her techie past? Yes and no. Whether yes or no fully won out, I couldn't say, but finally, I decided that it was all going to end Happily Ever After and I really couldn't be bothered to finish the book.
