I liked reading this book because it raises many important topics that all children and adults need to understand. The concept of family can have many different meanings and appearances, which is what this book discusses. Many features of this book aid in the ability to convey these concepts to children, the biggest being the simple language accompanied by clear illustrations. The child-friendly words and sentence structures make this book easy to read and understand. For example, "Laura and Kyle live with their mom, Joyce, her partner, Emily, and a poodle names Daisy." This sentence accompanied by an illustration including each member of the family makes it easy for a young reader to understand that this family has two mother figures. Another aspect of this book that aids readers are the examples of animal families. One example of this is, "In lion families there is only one father, but lots of babies and several mothers to take care of them and get them food." Overall, I think this is a great book for children because it informs children and gives them the understanding necessary to become an educated, accepting adult.… (mais)

In my opinion this is a good book. I think this is a good book because of all of the different "characters" that are in the book are believable and a reader is going to be like one of these characters. For example, Carlos' has a family that is made up of his papa, mama, and two little sisters and a reader who is reading this could have a family that is just like Carlos'. Another reason this is a good book is because of the plot of the book. The plot of the book is taking a look at families of all different kinds; people, animals, different number of people in a family, and who the family is made up of. This makes this a good book because as a reader, he/she is able to see that there are so many different types of families and just because they all are different, they know that a family is the people who love you most, which is the main idea of this story. For example, the book shows families of a mom, dad, siblings, a family of a single parent, a family of a parents with a partner, and families that is just made up of a man and woman and no children. This really shows readers a diverse way of looking at different people's families and knowing that they are all the same on the inside even though they look different from the outside.… (mais)

This is a great book for three reasons. First, the message of the book is that there is not one single right or wrong way for what makes a family. Families can consist of all different people and animals and still be considered a family. Another reason I like this book is because the writing is clear, simple, and flows well. You would be able to read this to the younger grades or let them read it for themselves and it would not be too difficult to understand. “Families can look different from each other….and even in the same family, family members can look different from one another”. Lastly, I like the book because it pushes readers to think about the issue of what a family is supposed to look like.… (mais)
