An adaptation of the textbook used in the 1920s and 30s to combat illiteracy in China, recast (apparently) as a textbook for learning Chinese. It is really better adapted for the first purpose because it is written in semi-literary style and assumes a thorough understanding of Chinese grammar. It might be of use to English-speakers who have some knowledge of conversational Chinese and wish to expand their reading ability. Of historical interest for its use of an overly-complex, thoroughly outmoded system of Romanization which educators attempted to popularize in the early 20th century.… (mais)
