I read this book in the Carter Notch Hut while resting my sprained ankle. A fascinating photo book tells the story of the North American moose. I learned that moose are on the move and that moose have a look only moose can give when they’re not angry or scared. The author often finds himself trapped by moose but these gentle giants never harm him. The rut is timed to a tee, the bull moose shaking of the velvet of their antlers on Aug. 25th, fighting for cows, and finishing up by Oct. 10th. A cow will raise her young, defending them against bear and wolves if necessary, but then harshly cast them off on their own after a year. I want to see a moose. The people we meet in New Hampshire always make it sound so easy.… (mais)
