I'm giving this book two stars because it really needs some work and thought. It's not a bad story. At all. In fact, I need more from it.

Here's the problem. Instead of one book, this should have been two books. There should be more character development. And there needs to be more research into how an FBI agent in the field would act. If this were broken into two books, and more attention were paid to each book in those areas, I'm sure they would have been great books. As is, however, I found myself getting annoyed at what I know to be unprofessional and unnecessary situations that the characters were in that, really, had nothing to do with the story and were supposed to provide character development, but did not at all.

And, by the way, there is only one serial killer, so the title is misleading as well. The first half of the book deals with a single serial killer, and was extremely anti-climatic, and the second half is basically political commentary on whistleblowers. Methinks that the author is sympathetic toward Edward Snowden and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. That's not a bad thing, but it doesn't make for great reading.

We start off with Billy. He has no idea where he's really at or why he's being held there against his will. He's being asked by a doctor to recount details about what happened that night on Hampton Road but he just can't remember.

The story goes back and forth from Billy being in his current state of having amnesia to the events that happened during the last couple of months leading up to the incident. These flashbacks are told by Billy, his girlfriend Praxy and his best friend Charlie.

The first chapter was good - it was interesting and humourous. Then the book was okay - some funny lines here and there, but it was all forgettable. Going into detail about motorcycles and the races was boring and a chore to get through sometimes. I didn't like how the ending was put together.… (mais)

Book Review: Hampton Road I won this book in a giveaway. Thank you!I love psychological thrillers, so I was super excited to win this book. The storyline and characters are interesting, but the story dragged at times. It took me a while to get through this book because I kept putting the book down every time I got to a boring part. The ending had a nice twist and that made me glad that I finished it.

Where Do I Start??
Reading this book after reading Pines by Blake Crouch was like taking a dose of NyQuil. It brought me down real fast. It's a crime thriller about FBI Agent Rick Clark who is searching for a murderer they call the Bedsheet Serial Killer. If crime thrillers/police procedurals aren't written well they can be very dry and boring. Unfortunately that was the case here so I just couldn't get into it. For one, there were various grammatical errors. For example, the author wrote "dosed off" instead of "dozed off."

Also, the prose wasn't very elegant at all. It felt amateurish and unrefined. Take this sentence for example: "Leaning over the toilet, he watched the yellow vomit swirl around in the bowl before disappearing with a gurgle down the hole." I personally don't care to hear about the color of vomit or how it goes down a toilet. Need I say more?

Lastly, there wasn't a whole lot of cohesiveness from chapter to chapter. There were several times I found myself backtracking to see if I missed something. I gave up about midway through because I couldn't bear to trudge through it any longer.  I definitely think it needs a lot more work and an editor's touch.
