Mark Tompkins Sec is a world renewed dancer, choreographer and artist, trained at the Theatre of Movement and Gesture. He was born in America in 1954, and moves to France in 1973. After settling in France, he gets involved in a series of solos and group collaborations and discovers dance as a form of free expression. In 1983 he decides to open his own company I.D.A. and develops a unique way of fabricating unidentified performance objects.
His passion for improvisation ensures him collaboration with hundreds of talented musicians, dancers, artists, video directors. Over the years, Mark Tompkins Sec has traveled to almost every country on every continent, where he shared his teaching methods with other aspiring artists. Inspired by a photographer’s study of the human body in motion, he creates his trilogy ‘Trahisons - Men, Women, Human”, and in 1984 wins the International Choreography Contest in Bagnolet for the same one.
Along with a group of European artists, in the period from 1990 to 1992, Mark Tompkins Sec works on producing a series of unique site specific performances involving dance, music, video and light, titled “La Plaque Tournante’. Following his fruitful career, in September 2016, the Amazon' Kindle service publishes Mark Tompkins Sec Song and Dance, a book written by him, focused on modern dances and some of his real life experiences with the subject matter.
