An interesting insight into the operation of this important line, the main route from South Wales via the Severn Tunnel and the London main line. The viewpoint of this book is very much that of its operations, understandable for an author who worked in the area's signalling. This is an area of much importance to the whole Bristol railway area, from the glittering growth of the modern Bristol Parkway, to the poor old disinherited station(s) at Pilning.

For a history of construction of the line and its operations in the first half of its life, with the number of now-closed local stations along it, I'd also recommend Robertson & Abbott's 'GWR the Badminton line'. Rendall's other book on Severn Tunnel Junction covers operations to the Western side of the Tunnel.… (mais)
