I think this book is really great so far. I am up to Teddy Roosevelt's speech "The Man With The Muck Rake" and all of the speeches have really touched me. Well, the majority of them anyway. The speeches are short and are selected well to be the ones that provoke emotions in the reader. I am amazed at how much I can feel some of these speeches! I have been trying to read them out loud to my girlfriend and it makes them even more electrifying. They have a small but to the point sample of revolutionary war speeches that really struck a chord with me. I have moved from colonial era through womens suffrage and anti slavery through to the Lincoln era with "The Gettysburg Address" and one other. Other speeches that have really touched me have included a speech by Richard Nixon which was written just in case Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were not able to take off from the moon after landing. It is a speech that discussed how the astronauts had committed their lives to the mission and that they were happy to have sacrificed their lives to open a new frontier to human beings and even more to Americans. I also read Ruddy Giuliani's speech to the U.N three weeks after 9/11 which reinforced how much I hated him and the Republican idea of "you are either with us or against us" that took over the U.S in the months and years after the terrorist attacks of September 11th. Rudy gave a really great speech but it was just propaganda to spread the word for the up coming wars. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading history direct from the source.… (mais)

A photographic portrait of a variety of dog breeds. Each page contains a photograph of a pure bred dog, along with an appropriate quote from a famous person in history, saying or a proverb. For example, one photograph is of two sleeping puppies; one with its chin over the other one's neck. The quote on the page is "Let sleeping dogs lie." A proverb from the 1300's. Children as well as adults will find a soft spot for these pictures and might learn that many in history adored their dogs. Contains over 60 photographs each with a proverb, quote or saying.… (mais)

I loved looking at all the cats and read the quotes in this book. Pretty much everyone at home wanted to ooh and ahh over it as we're owned by two cats.

This is one of the many quotes inside this book: "It's a very inconvient habbit of kittens (Alice had once said) that, whatever you say to kittens, they always purr." ~Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass
