bookworm2bookworm | 1 outra resenha | Mar 30, 2017 | I had so much fun reading this book. I don’t know where to begin in telling you it’s worth your time and money.
This was literally like opening a gift that is carefully wrapped, so you know to take your time in unwrapping it slowly, prolonging that anticipation, because as much as you want to see what’s inside, you want to prolong that feeling of excitement and anticipation.
That is exactly how I felt reading this book.
Here is what worked: characterization of Elias and Josie was fantastic. The differences between the two were in your face, and I couldn’t wait to see how those two would reconcile those and develop a relationship; secondary characters: we were introduced to them slowly and reverently, so we could get the feel of them, and I admired that. I now am chomping at a bit waiting for Nicholas and Frost’s story; plot was intriguing and exciting; the setting and dialogue gave it a real feel of the times.
If you’re looking for a story that is filled with complex characters that are entertaining and fun then pick this smart and damn good historical romance.
NOTE: I loved it so much that I went out and got me an Audible copy…I didn’t like the guy that was reading it. Maybe you might…

bookworm2bookworm | outras 4 resenhas | Mar 30, 2017 | A Man Above Reproach was full of so much promise. I absolutely loved the set-up and the meet-cute. But after the first 50 or so pages it started going downhill. The decisions Elias and "Josephine" were making began to seem confused, and plot jumps began happening all over. It was like the beginning was written and polish but the rest was just a rough draft. It was quite disappointing, because the bare bones of a great story were all there, but the execution just didn't happen.

GoldenDarter | outras 4 resenhas | Sep 15, 2016 | Claire does not want to marry her fiancé of 9 years. When she meets his cousin, she really does not want to marry him. His cousin, Jonathan, believes he is under a curse to go mad before he dies. While the two attend a house party they meet when both hear a sound that makes them wonder if the house is haunted. To prove that it is not their friends hire a medium on the advice of her fiancé. The medium reveals Jonathan's future.
I liked these characters. Claire knows her own mind. She just has to make Jonathan change his. I like how they think they are being secretive but almost everyone can tell what is happening (at least between those two.) I liked how Spiritualism is explained through the story. I figured out early on in the story what was going to happen and I wanted to see if I was right. I was! I enjoyed the writing and the repartee between Claire and Jonathan.
The villain's (the fiancé and Claire's stepmother) were weak people (good characters because I strongly disliked them.) The friends were good foils for the two leads. They were the mirrors by which Claire and Jonathan could work out their feelings and lives.
Enjoyable read.… (mais)

Here are my Goodreads notes:
9.0 % in - "Love the prose! Complex hero, want to give him a hug!"
81.0% in - "Surprisingly fast read; LOVING the characters; exceptionally good dialogue."
And here's a teaser in regards to prose ....
"Good day," she said to his back, his departure leaving her slightly stunned, as if his presence had been a poisoned dart.
~~~ * ~~~
"He did indeed taste like brandy, but what was bitter in the glass was sweet on his lips."
~~~ * ~~~
"The click of the billiards balls, the heavy thud into pocket, the smooth baize of the table; it was all somewhat reassuring. Physics worked, gravity prevailed. Miss Seton's existence changed things, but the world still worked according to natural law."
~~~ * ~~~
"Thaxton had never considered himself anything but alone.
Solo, unus, solitary, however you wanted to phrase it, he thought as he dressed. He was an island. Or a dead end."
I loved everything about this story! Even the predictable villain! I could gush and gush, but I won't. Please read an excerpt on Amazon and see for yourself.
