Compendium of 40 previously published motoring stories from 20 different authors. This book was subsequently republished as "Great Motoring Stories of Australia and New Zealand" (Rigby, 1976).

"Middle and Leg" is a collection of cricket stories, some of whom are unique to the book while others a reprints from various other publications. It's for a good cause, as all profits went to charities to deal with children with disabilities, so one can't be too critical.

I couldn't seem to get much out of the book; there are pieces on Arthur Mailey and George Giffen which were interesting anough but then there is yet another article on "Yabba", the supposed wit of the SCG. I've read numerous stories on Yabba but yet to find a line of his funny. And then there is the requisite article by miserable old former cricketer saying that the game isn't as good as it used to be. For this book, it is Hunter "Stork" Hendry who complains that it's all gone down hill from his day and he does a fine job depressing the reader.… (mais)
