Collaborative teaching is more than trying to ensure that the lab course covers roughly the same material as the lecture course in biology or chemistry. Good collaborative teaching changes the way students view the course - even the discipline. It helps students see - in action - discourse. It enables students to see that not all experts in a field agree and that different people may approach a topic or issue from different vantage points. At times, it provides students with a different voice that helps them understand something that a different instructor may not be able to achieve.
