In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, mischief in the woods tears couples apart, and brings them back together in the classic style of Shakespearean comedy. Phillip Page’s graphic novel adaptation brings this classic play into a format that is much more accessible to high school students with the addition of numerous discussion prompts, translations, summaries and other useful tips to aid struggling readers. In spite of its long, long ago and far away setting, the play itself has many elements of interest to high schoolers-unrequited love, overbearing parents, miscommunications-but the metered language of the Bard typically locks out all but the most poetically-inclined. Graphic representations, along with the aforementioned reading tips provide clues to help teens decipher this worthwhile text. Highly recommended for public and school YA fiction collections, especially high school literature collections.… (mais)
