An absolutely stunning tale of someone finding himself. It took me a while to get into it, being stuck in the middle of an acid trip is tricky, but once in I couldn't get out again. Told with amazing imagery and language, this book really grabs a hold of the reader. If I didn't think I'd get in trouble with the parents, I'd read it with my high school students.

One of the Great unknown gems of Contemporary Literature. Gurney Norman is the Mark Twain of Appalachia!

Dunno how a young 'un would find this nowadays, but it was a very big deal to me as a teenager in the early 70s, and I've enjoyed re-reading it several times since.
