A glorious collection of photographs by American studio photographers outside the studio throughout the middle half of the twentieth century. Some of the images have insightful commentary from the editor, her friends, and some of the subjects themselves. Survey of photography that documents a different aspect of death (violence, medicine, family, ritual). Each section is prefaced with a short essay by the author.
