15 years ago Lexie's younger sister Amber was murdered in the woods near their small town home and Lexie's boyfriend was found guilty. Now as an execution date is pending Lexie is persuaded to question what went on and why her life and that of those around her is so tainted.
I have really enjoyed Nordin's police procedurals but this was a departure for me and actually at first seemed like the sort of book I would go out of my way to avoid. I found myself hooked! The plot is fairly flimsy, the twist at the end is both predictable and cliched but the whole is a really gripping read for a few hours.… (mais)

Detective Kjeld Nygaard has returned to his hometown in disgrace. He is being investigated as he shot a serial-killer, a serial killer who had been a personal friend. So when his estranged father calls him Kjeld chooses to go back to visit the remote family home. His father Stenar is suffering from dementia but is insistent that he has witnessed a murder in the old barn, the old barn where the family ravens live. This is a solid enough first novel which took me a while to engage with. however once into the story I really enjoyed it. The setting is atmospheric and the plot interesting with the idea of a dementia-sufferer as the key witness. Although very rooted as Scandi-noir, the author is actually American so it is a very clever homage to the genre.… (mais)

My thanks to the Author publishers and NetGalley for providing me with a Kindle version of this book to read and honestly review.
I am a big fan of 'Scandi Noir ' books and this debut is up there with some of the best, perhaps not in the league of 'The Millennium Trilogy ' or 'Mercy' but a quality read. Atmospheric absorbing clever and well written, engaging from start to finish. Excellent characters who you could relate to, and so descriptive at times i could actually feel the cold, hopefully Kjeld and partner will appear again with more books to come in this series. Also call me an old romantic but I would also hope that Hanna will also make a return.
Totally recommended.
