Cal Newport is a tenured professor of Computer Science at Georgetown University. In addition to his academic work, Newport writes about the intersection of these technologies with our personal and professional lives. Good ideas about modern work that are worth considering adopting as a way to preserve sanity and maintain an appropriate work-life balance.

"Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World" by Cal Newport is a book that explores the concept of reducing digital distractions to enhance focus, productivity, and overall well-being. Newport, a computer science professor and productivity expert, argues that the overuse of digital technologies can fragment our attention and erode our quality of life. The book provides a framework for reclaiming control over technology use through a philosophy he terms "digital minimalism."

DNF @50%

Mostly focuses on recounting famous people or regular folks processes/issues as examples - it wasn’t for me.

I liked his recommendation to be very intentional about the information we consume.

Now I want to read an earlier book that will perhaps be more general: [b:Minimalism: The Path to an Organized, Stress-free and Decluttered Life|35285885|Minimalism The Path to an Organized, Stress-free and Decluttered Life|Gwyneth Snow|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1496395912l/35285885._SY75_.jpg|56648147]

Contents (the numbered chapters & some subsections)
1. A lopsided arms race - An overview of the problem
2. Digital minimalism - anecdotes of people who chose to not get sucked in.
2.1. Define your technology rules
2. 2. Take a 30 day break
2. 3. Reintroduce technology
3. The digital declutter
4. Spend time alone
4.1. A great deal about the solitude that Abraham Lincoln found away from the White House
4.2. Other (famous) people who valued solitude
4.3. A number of books are cited in this chapter (there is not a bibliography at the end, and book references are throughout the text)
4.4. The value of long walks
5. Don’t click “Like”
5. 1. The default network - the social network
5. 2. Reclaiming conversation (there is a book by that title by Turkle)
5. 3. Practice: Don’t click “Like”
5. 4. Practice: Consolidating texting - only do it during certain times of the day
6. Reclaim leisure
6.1. Create a seasonal plan which is reviewed weekly
7. Join the attention resistance

There was a review of this book that was so impressive that I paid full price for the Kindle edition. However, this is a topic that is very much set in the current generation. Years from now something else will be the current worry.
