Unaccountably, I'd hoped the selection of quotations would teach me something about the game itself. Rather, the various remarks, jibes, and jests primarily characterise the people quoted, only on very rare occasion revealing something about the psychology of the game. For the most part, it's simple amusement, and for that matter not even exclusive to baseball.

Quote 1633 distinguishes itself by not being about baseball, inspired by baseball, or from someone in some way involved in baseball: "A sense of humor is a saving grace.
