Ages 8-12.

Every Day on Earth celebrates the amazing events that happen each day in an attempt to get readers appreciating the planet for the wonder it is. The facts are divided into several categories, including living things, food, the human body, sports, and technology. There is a category to intrigue a wide variety of children’s interests. Children need not read the book cover to cover, but can flip around until they find an interesting section, header, or illustration.

Each page begins with a bolded sentence in bright letters with a question, riddle, or an impressive fact that acts as a hook. The book illuminates such major events as the speed of a hurricane, as well as silly little facts, such as the number of times a six year old laughs in a day.

A few of the pop culture references are already outdated, but still interesting. Most of the facts are about ongoing natural processes or explain where everyday items such as chocolate chip cookies come from. Children will still be curious about these explanations in years to come.

Bloom’s cartoon illustrations are lighthearted and irreverent, and reflect human diversity. Children will enjoy flipping through the pages of this colorful book and sharing their new-found knowledge with others. Recommended.

This fun and factual non-fiction piece talks about the many interesting things that happen every minute on Earth. All of the facts are sorted into categories such as: Earth, Technology, Food, and Animals. The language is easy to read, the facts are fun and interesting, and there are even activities to do at the end of each section. Each fact is on one page and has its own illustration and explanation. This book would be a fun edition to have in a classroom library. It could be useful for research or projects or just for fun! This book can be used by those of all ages but is easily do-able even in the primary grades.… (mais)

I absolutely loved this book!

It's been awhile since I found myself totally engrossed within the pages of a non-fiction book, but authors Steve & Matthew Murrie managed to keep my attention from the first page to the last with EVERY MINUTE ON EARTH. More importantly, the authors deliver exactly what the title promises -- totally fun facts about things that happen on Earth every sixty seconds.

The book is broken down into eight main categories: Earth, Space, The Human Body, Technology, Animals, Food, Pop Culture, and Sports. Each category is also followed by activities that you can do yourself (or with friends!) that are fun, easy, and awesome!

So, what exactly does happen on Earth every sixty seconds? Here are just a few examples:

2,000 thunderstorms occur.
45 million gallons of water go over Niagra Falls.
2,271 working satellites orbit Earth.
A hair grows 0.00027 inch.
954 camera phones are sold.
15,000 gallons of air are inhaled by a blue whale.
21,000 pizzas are baked.
180 Barbies are sold.
115 soccer balls are made -- and 61 of them are in Pakistan.

Totally cool, right? And these are just a few of the amazing facts you'll find in this book! Believe me, everyone needs a copy of EVERY MINUTE ON EARTH in their personal library. Just think, you can learn something new every minute (and maybe find yourself added to the next addition of this great read!).
