An excellent book tracing Phillip II's patronage especially in the building of the Escorial. Much about Italians brought to Spain. Much about El Mudo, Philip's confidence n him; his study under Titian in Venice; his work in the Escorial; privileges granted to him exempting him from the normal legal position of mutes.
