David is persuaded to believe Randy's death is not suicide, but it's an inconvenience if it were a murder. This is because David has a busy schedule and does not have time to investigate. But, feeling guilty for not being around enough, David decides to juggle his schedule and the investigation into Randy's death. But this means his to-do list keeps getting longer. The book is structured so readers can investigate alongside David and Detective Watts; having both perspectives means readers can follow more of the case.

Police Officer Joe Stryker seeks redemption for the death of his partner as he attempts to solve the murder of a banker. He risks the ire of his department as he oversteps his boundaries as a beat cop. The plot twists and turns lead to an ending I was not expecting. The historical setting added to the story, as Joe is a WWII veteran, and Denver is an overgrown cow-town on verge of a boom in growth. I particularly enjoyed Joe's relationship with his wet-behind-the-ears rookie partner. This was a gritty and entertaining read.… (mais)
