Wildlife of the Pacific Northwest by David Moskowitz is meant to be used as a tool for understanding and identifying the wild creatures that reside in the Pacific Northwest. This is a varied area, consisting of the rain forests, mountains, prairie, deserts and ocean-side of Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Northern California and British Columbia. This field guide describes more than 180 species and includes color photographs of the animal, it’s tracks and scat.

I don’t do the nature walks that I used to do but I have an interest in wildlife and this book certainly supplies all the information that I would need to pinpoint an animals track and assist in identifying the species. The author has covered all types of mammals, along with the commonly found birds, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates found in the Pacific Northwest. It would be a valuable tool for any nature lover and it’s simple clarity would appeal to all age groups.

I spend some enjoyable time examining this book and the excellent photographs. There is a lot of information on offer here including habitat, reproductive cycles, and food sources that would help anyone from amateur nature lovers to the more skilled enthusiasts learn more about the natural environment.

A well done field guide. It is mainly mammals. Birds, reptiles etc get only about 50 pages - there needs to be a Volume 2!
