What a lovely story. Heartwarming tale about second chances, love and forgiveness. The author takes you inside a family of military men and women, giving a sense of the bond they share and the unique hardships they endure. Alex and Lily were dealt a cruel hand twenty years ago, but their paths cross again and hope renews amid the chaos. The way the secrets and lies wrap up at the end are well done. This was a terrific plot. The language was clean and the intimate scenes were PG, yet full of emotion. A few grammar issues, but the story was too important to be a major factor. Lily and Ace meet during a tour of duty in South Korea. As much as they try to deny their feelings, they fall in love. But trouble is on the horizon and war gets in the way. The Pendant's Promise focuses more on Lily's life, but Love In the Morning Calm gives us the insight on Ace, where he was coming from and his doubts and fears. I loved it! The author's attention to historic facts and her knowledge of the military family makes for a very real story and a fluid reading experience. Right off the bat we get a sense of who Ace Cabot is and the horrors he's seen in action. I cried reading this. Even though I know a HEA is coming for the couple, I also know it's a long time coming.
