This is an update to the 2007 book by the same title. If you liked it then, you will like it now. More for newbies to the profession, it covers things like collection, planning, management issues and outreach. It is updated somewhat, but this reviewer who looks at it from a school perspective would like to see standards and 21st century skills emphasized more. The book does cover many different kinds of libraries and their work with children, and it is focused on the child rather than the type of library the child is in. A good introduction to the world of children (and some youth) services. Recommended.… (mais)

As children come into school systems, it is imperative we work to adjust our understandings of their worlds more and more. This book strives to encourage professionals regarding how to adapt what they are already doing (and why) into what they need to incorporate into the mixture now. A historical view on children’s services to a hard look into what is to come regarding children’s services is a very large part of this book. The future ideas listed are really ideas for today. For the professional to consider what they are doing today and how they can update it to be more relevant. Recommended.… (mais)

Used as a textbook on the topic, the two excellent authors devote an entire chapter to working cooperatively with schools and other educational agencies. At least the theory if not the implementation is in the literature. Recommended as a reminder of what needs to happen.
