This was a mildly entertaining mash-up of a cozy murder mystery and an international, post ww1 espionage plot, with an added sidebar of treasure hunt. On a silent movie set. I enjoyed the recurring characters, especially everyone’s favorite doggy film star, Mr. Fogg.

This is a short story prequel to the Heathclff Lennox series. Definitely not worth the audible purchase. It’s maudlin, dripping with exaggerated sentiment that isn’t believable or amusing. The attempted humor of the butler-turned-batman behind enemy lines is never as funny as the author is trying to make it.

Book 5 in this entertaining series. This is not great literature or a baffling mystery. It’s predictable entertainment, mildly funny with likable characters. There’s a wonderful opening line and classic ending with all the suspects gathered for the final denouement in the kitchen of a Benedictine abbey. I enjoyed the audio production with its occasional barking sound effects from Mr. Fogg.… (mais)
