Mary Nona McGreal (1914–2013)

4081 Journeyman, Preacher, Pastor, Teacher Samuel Mazzuchelli: American Dominican, by Mary Nona McGreal, OP (read 9 Oct 2005) This book is excellently researched and tells about all that can be told about the astoundng career of this very admirable priest (born 4 Nov 1806 in Milan, Italy, died 23 Feb 1864 at Benton, Wisconsin). He became a Dominican in Italy, then was left to find his own way to the US, sailing on a packet 100' by 28' on a trip that took from 5 Oct 1828 to 14 Nov 1828. He studied in Kentucky and was ordained 5 Sept 1830. Most of his work was in the area of Dubuque and southern Wisconsin. He had a tough time and one cannot help but admire his lonely effectual labors. This was a book well worth reading, evocative of other books read in early U.S. church history.… (mais)
