I've been reading a lot of this author's books and I've been trying hard to get better in seeing the plot twists in her stories, and I saw it partly in this book. However, I was dumbstruck with the part I didn't see. Similar to her other books, a fast-paced and engrossing read.

"One by One" by Freida McFadden is a gripping thriller that plunges readers into a harrowing tale of betrayal and survival. When Claire Matchett and her friends embark on a much-needed getaway in the woods, they anticipate relaxation and camaraderie. However, their vacation takes a sinister turn when their minivan breaks down in the remote wilderness, leaving them stranded and vulnerable. As they trek through the dark forest, they soon realize they are not alone, and a deadly force is picking them off one by one. McFadden masterfully builds tension as the group grapples with fear and suspicion, wondering who among them can be trusted. With its relentless pace and spine-tingling suspense, "One by One" will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the shocking conclusion.… (mais)

Wow ! I really thought I got the mystery figured out. In the beginning I was even disappointed because I thought I solved the mystery and saw the twist early on and then towards the end the author started unraveling the twists and that just blew my mind. I was not expecting that ! The surprising turn was a jaw-dropper and the characters were certainly more deranged than the characters in her Housemaid series. However, I was grieved for the one person who was a victim by circumstance; I would've wanted that person to survive but I won't spoil it for others.… (mais)

I just love Freida. As long as you know you're going in reading a popcorn thriller, but they go fast and totally draw me in. This wasn't my favorite Freida, but it was still good. I love the portrayal of an almost autistic person. And the letters that were written to get her side of the story - which of course turned out not to be true. I had that feeling because Mia's responses were always so short and sweet and barely said anything about her own life. SPOILER: The ending was good that the main character did end up living. I thought the autistic coworker lady would end up killing her, but you do find out she killed her friend. Fun concept, enjoyed listening to the book. Just not sure how much I'll remember of this one going forward.… (mais)
