He is a member of the Writer's Union of Canada, PEN, and a fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation, and has been named an Officer of the French Order of Arts and Letters. He holds honorary doctorates from the University of Liège in Belgium and the Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, England. He is the recipient of numerous prizes and also won the Germán Sánchez Ruipérez Prize (Spain) and the Prix Roger Caillois (France) for the ensemble of his work, which has been translated into more than thirty languages. Albert Manguel né en 1948 à Buenos Aires en Argentine est un écrivain, traducteur, éditeur argentino-canadien.
Il passe son enfance dans différents pays , principalement an Israël à Tel Aviv ou son père ambassadeur est nommé. Il apprend les langues et en maîtrise cinq. De retour à Buenos Aires, il a fait la lecture à Jorge Luis Borges devenu aveugle.
Alberto Manguel frèquente différents établissements scolaires dont le collège national et l'Université de Buenos Aires puis s'oriente vers la critique littéraire en tant que journaliste Presse, radio et TV.
Il s'installe par la suite à Toronto, Ontario, Canada ou il passe près de 20 ans - étant naturalisé en 1985 - puis en France de 2001 à 2014 avant de déménager à New York en 2014 avant de revenir à Buenos Aires en 2015 ou il dirige la bibliothèque nationale d'Argentine jusque 2018
Alberto Manguel a surtout une activité de traducteur et d'écrivain spécialiste des livres et de la lecture. Il commet plusieurs ouvrages sur les livres dont 'Une histoire de la lecture' érudite. Il est traduit dans de nombreuses langues.  | |
