Holiday romance lovers, come take looksie! Penny is a heart torn sap who needs a good old fashioned love story to cheer up her sour christmas spirit! Luckily for her, Del is just the cure she... hasn't really been looking for??
Aside from charming holiday romance and well done kissing, this book also dives head first into the art of non-romantic relationships. Abbey is Penny's sister. By the way this is written, you can tell Penny loves her sister very dearly. It is too sweet, like, adorable how bad she feels keeping a secret from the darling thing. Then there's, of course, Penny's mother. Yuck. Who's a total "need to know" when it comes to her daughter's life. Not my favorite character in the world, but Penny does give her a little sass at the end there, sooo who can really complain? Eventually, Penny does decide to fess up to both her ma and sis, which does a wonderful job of tying up this holiday fic. (Pun intended! Not the sexy kind, but the gift-wrap kind!)
"Love's in the cards" is a cute holiday romance story.
Penny is the real deal. She's been loved, she's been hurt, and she's not above keeping her business her own. I like that in a main character. Makes them so much easier to relate to when they've got a little sass to them, don't you think?
Anyway, this novel is about heart break, healing, and sweet sweet romance! Or novella, I suppose? It's a little on the shorter side, but that just makes it easier to read since there's no "filler scenes" eating up the pages.
I'd for sure get this for a hopeless romantic around the holidays. I need more holiday romance in my life. Especially since it's getting to that time of year, you know? This is great for lonely saps like me. Don't have a boyfriend? Grab a book, ladies and gents.
Have a lovely rest of your day~

I LOVED Banking on Temperance. Ms. Lower's historical set in the wilds of St. Louis introduces the third sibling in her Cotillion Ball Series. Basil is a banker in St. Louis who enjoys the loose living on the frontier until Temperance Jones' father collapses in his bank. Will he be able to persuade her to not fulfill her father's dying wish?

I loved the historical detail which did not romanticize the past (yes, funny for a romance book). There was a lot of passion between the couple and my nook sizzled. I can't wait to read more of this family.… (mais)

Becky Lower has a gift with words and thankfully she decided to share her gift with us. The latest entry in the mid-19c historical romance Cotillion Ball Series features Jasmine Fitzpatrick and her effort to find a husband before the newest round of debutants steal her thunder. Angry at being denied a proper debutant season the previous year, and because her father refused her a new wardrobe, she is determined to win the hand of the English Lord Alistair before the season begins. Alistair, an older widower, has come to America to begin a horse race track, but he can't imagine doing so without his horse-handling equal partner, former stable boy Parr O'Shaughennesy. Parr helps Jasmine not only pursue Alistair, but also develop her latent talent for fashion and design. As she experiences career success she must decide between passion and duty.

Lower's vivid descriptions make this book come alive. I could practically smell the barn and see the fashions. I also loved the story arc. There are plenty of books out there with self-indulgent, whiney heroines. If you only read the first ten pages or were tempted to skip this book because of previous encounters with Jasmine, please read the whole book, enjoy the transformation and how Lower brings humanity to Jasmine's character. It is a treat, as is this book.

I received an ARC in exchange for review and I'm glad I did.
