Shell had escaped Hollywood thanks to an elderly relative's bequest of a beloved pet shop in small town Connecticut. But unfortunately, she didn't escape her self-absorbed mother who can't imagine her daughter WANTING to leave Hollywood after a decent career in television. Shell has had a hand in solving a murder before and has an interest in the local Homicide Detective.
Much of the set-up for this installment is in the publisher's blurb, but that doesn't tell you how much fun it is to read. I love the way real clues are hidden amongst the red herrings and a diabolical plot twist or two.

Shell escaped Hollywood thanks to an elderly relative's bequest of a beloved pet shop in small town Connecticut. But, unfortunately, she didn't escape her self absorbed mother who can't imagine her daughter WANTING to leave Hollywood after a decent career in television. Now her mother is in town browbeating the local community theater group and having brought in a director with a lousy personality with her. There is some history with other cast members, so it's no surprise that said director finds a starring role as the corpse. Shell's significant other/local police detective is recused from the case because a main suspect is his cousin. Intricate sleuthing and some really devious red herrings plus an unexpected plot twist or two made this a wonderful read!

Crime and Catnip by T.C. LoTempio, one of my favorite authors. Almost finished and I adore this Nick and Nora series. Nora Charles was crime reporter and then inherited her parent’s Hot Breads which she is trying to make financially successful. There is a lot of back story of how she got Nick, the extremely intelligent tuxedo cat but don’t want to go into that.

One of the reasons that I love this series is I used a wonderful intuitive tuxedo cat. On the day that my parakeet died, I was crying and she went out and caught a baby bird for me! I took the bird and went down the steps to the basement and let it out at the patio door. The bird flew off and I went back to thank my cat. She never brought me another bird, only that one. And was only of the stories that I have of her.

There is extensive interaction between Nick and Nora. He manages to help her figure out the mysteries, and gives her clues in many ways. His strong eyesight and sense of smell really help the mystery unravel. I read two other previous books in this series and I adore all of them. You learn a little about two different kinds of coding. The romance is light and Nora's are also helpful with the mystery.

This is third of the series and I recommend reading them in order so you can watch Nick and Nora's bonding grow.… (mais)
