About the Author
James Laughlin (October 30, 1914 - November 12, 1997) was an American poet and literary book publisher who founded New Directions Publishing. Laughlin won the 1992 Distinguished Contribution to American Letters Award from the National Book Awards Program. The Academy of American Poets' James mostrar mais Laughlin award, for a poet's second book, is named in his honor. Solid. Edouard Roditi's " The Vampires of Istanbul" was a delight.
Counterfactual history in a lighter vein, as opposed to the very serious works edited by Ferguson (1997) and Tetlock (2010). This book is a collection of stories by notable sci-fi writiers, stories based on alternative versions of history. Silverberg's contribution, for example, considers an powerful African empire that might have arisen, had the Black Death killed off even more Europeans than it did. The stories vary from very good indeed to passable, while the alternative history angle adds another dimensioni.… (mais)
I love this work. The poems are heartfelt, and makes one hurt. I don't even know how many times I've read this.
